The Elesh/Gifts/Rites package has a lot going for it in Modern, even if there aren't a lot of decks successfully using it these days
Mechanically, Spira operates primarily out of your graveyard
Maddening Cacophony requires more mana, while Fleet Swallower requires you be able to attack
Use it to take out most lower level opposing foes, or bolster its attack with Merlin Crab in a pinch
